We are looking for amazing educators to help us reach our mission of developing the next generation of innovators. Candidates must be deeply committed to preparing scholars to meet or exceed the highest academic standards, while cultivating the strength of character necessary to both graduate from four-year colleges and thrive in 21st century careers.

We believe that excellent teaching can close the achievement and opportunity gap. As educators, it is our responsibility to both build strong and authentic relationships with our scholars and to remove any obstacles that hinder our scholars from achieving at the highest levels. We are dedicated to creating a structured, safe school environment, with high expectations for both team members and scholars. Our culture of high empathy ensures all members of our community feel known, loved, and respected.

Structure and Support

Teaching at Digital Pioneers Academy is different. With fully stocked classrooms (including technology!), an Operations team that supports non-instructional duties and a yearlong curriculum, you are never working alone. Daily huddles, frequent coaching and feedback, and weekly half-day time for team meetings and development all support your day-to-day responsibilities.

Professional Growth

Closing the achievement and opportunity gaps requires a focus on growth (also one of our DPA values!). You will start the school year several weeks before our scholars to participate in intensive summer professional development and team building. You will also spend one afternoon a week in teacher-designed development sessions.

Daily, you will be supported by a team of excellent teachers. You will co-plan lessons; provide ongoing feedback to each other; and brainstorm to solve scholar-specific, classroom-wide, and school-wide challenges.

Culture

Working here means living in the nation's capital and serving students whose communities have historically lacked access and opportunity to a great education. You'll be part of a close-knit team of teachers and staff with various levels of experience, working urgently to ensure our students feel known, loved and respected and are prepared to succeed in college and career. We use frameworks like servant leadership and radical candor to achieve our goals, and believe data-driven instruction is critical to understanding exactly what each scholar knows and does not know as we move them on the path to mastery.

While we work hard together, we also love and enjoy each other's company. In addition to the shared experience of serving and building our school community, we have happy hours, spirit weeks, and regular celebrations to foster great, lifelong relationships with each other.

Digital Pioneers Academy currently serves 360 sixth, seventh and eight grade scholars from Ward 7 & 8 in  Washington, DC. DPA will eventually be a 6th-12th grade college preparatory school. Our goal is to consistently rank as a Tier 1 Washington, DC public charter school.

What Makes DPA Different?

As teachers, you will:

  • Create a structured, safe school environment. Our culture of high expectations results in a school in which both teachers and scholars respect the importance of learning time. Our culture of high empathy ensures all members of our community feel known, loved, and respected.

  • Be supported by a team of excellent teachers. You will co-plan lessons; provide ongoing feedback to each other; and brainstorm to solve scholar-specific, classroom-wide, and school-wide challenges.

  • Spend one afternoon a week and approximately two weeks a year in teacher-designed professional development sessions. You will be an active participant in these sessions, shaping their focus and providing critical feedback to your fellow teammates.

  • Use data to drive instruction and to understand exactly what each scholar knows and does not know as you move them on the path to mastery

  • Work with a dynamic team of leaders using frameworks like servant leadership and radical candor to achieve our ambitious goals
